i recently produced a session for an artist where the basics were cut on four track cassette. man, that stuff sounds really good to me. here is a link to one of the tracks.
and stopped for coffee in one of those small towns that's off the highway. imagine my delight in seeing in neon "tapes and records" on a shop window. perhaps it was "records and tapes".
the art quotient for this one is through the roof. the music is dark muffled and twisted. my favorite kind of mastering job where it sounds like you are listening through a wet dishtowel.
