rebirth of a teac A 650 home stereo cassette deck

so i found one of these on ebay. i think i paid about 20 bucks for it. the shipping was pretty high, it's massive. like a lead brick! anyhoo, the seller says it powers up and works. which was only partially true. it would sort of work, but the belt was way stretched and worn.

today's jam box

today i'm listening to a GE {lately i've been kind of obsessed with this brand} 3-5254-a.

mixing mastering from four track cassette

so about a month ago i was traveling through southern oregon on a tour

and stopped for coffee in one of those small towns that's off the highway. imagine my delight in seeing in neon "tapes and records" on a shop window. perhaps it was "records and tapes".

the mole people, first warning

the art quotient for this one is through the roof. the music is dark muffled and twisted. my favorite kind of mastering job where it sounds like you are listening through a wet dishtowel.

gut nose tape

this is a pretty amazing tape. the packaging alone is an extravaganza of sorts. but the music inside is the real treasure.

food pyramid.....live/dead

food pyramid. this is a live recording. really cool ambient music. every now and then i get ahold of something i really like in this neighborhood, and this one is it. after many repeated listenings, it's even better than i initially thought.

review of the garden, everything is perfect, on burger

this tape was super fun to play over and over. it was a cool experience, because the first time through, i couldn't "get" it.

the principle reason you should get your hands on an old tape deck

this should be reason enough for any true music fan to scrounge up an old working cassette deck: there is an incredible amount of new, great, interesting music, that's only coming out on tape. that's it. you can stop reading this now.

review of beaunoise, you never close your lips when i kiss your eyes

this tape is 100% right on. i don't really have a grading system, but if i did, this would be the big wazoo.  killer all the way through. highly recommended.
